American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is an international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. ASTM is the standard created to enhance safety and improve the quality of consumer and industrial products. ASTM E2422 appears to be more stringent standard because even finer discontinuities have been graded when compared with ASTM E2973.The designer of the component may choose the standard based on the production method and the operating environment of the component.
